Visual Communication Interpreting (VCI) was founded by Ruann L. Wood after noticing the need for high quality yet cost-effective sign language interpreting services. VCI has earned a reputation for sending nationally certified American Sign Language interpreters to every assignment request ensuring that all information is kept confidential and that all parties are treated with respect and equality. VCI has never strayed from our commitment to high ethics not only out in the field but also in business practices.
Visual Communication Interpreting is an accredited member of the Better Business Bureau as well as the Farragut Chamber of Commerce and Athens Chamber of Commerce.
The Owner/Operating Manager
Ruann L. Wood, Owner/Operator and Certified Interpreter (RID: NIC-Advanced). Ruann and her husband of 23 years chose to move themselves, their three children and pets to Knoxville after spending 20 years serving in the United States Coast Guard. Ruann is a graduate of Portland Community College, Portland, Oregon with a degree in sign language interpreation and a soon-to-be graduate of Tennessee Temple University, Chattanooga, Tennessee with an advanced degree in sign language interpreation. Ruann knows that VCI, the customers, deaf consumers, and the work that comes in is a gift from God to be handled with respect, integrity, sound business ethics, never taking anything for grated. The Amazing VCI Staff Interpreting Team
Kyna E. Hively, Scheduling/Marketing/Interpreting Intern (RID: pre-certified). Kyna recently moved to Knoxville. She holds a bachelors degree in liberal arts with a concentration in History from Charter Oak State College in New Britain, Connecticut. In her free time you’ll find Kyna reading, writing, or sewing. Lydia Harmon, Scheduling and Nationally Certified Interpreter (RID: CT). Lydia came to Knoxville from Florida to attend the esteemed interpreting program at Maryville College. She holds a bachelors degree in interpretation and is an extremely talented concert and conference interpreter. Lydia is also a new mom to a beautiful baby and the wife of a teacher and up and coming pastor. Lydia is a rock solid part of the VCI team.EMAIL LYDIA
Robin Anderson, Human Resources and Nationally Certified Interpreter (RID: NIC Advanced). Robin comes to VCI with many years of invaluable experience that will assist VCI in reaching even more customers with our affordable, dependable, professional interpreting services. Robin is a dedicated mother of two great kids and the wife of ten years to one great guy. VCI is thrilled to add Robin to our team of professionals. EMAIL ROBIN

Ryan Worden, Community Outreach and Interpreting Intern(RID: pre-certified). Ryan came to VCI after a tour working with the AmeriCorp. Ryan holds a bachelors degree in sign language interpretation from Bloomsburg University and is working towards his national interpreter certification. Ryan is also an Eagle Scout and extremely talented designer and creator of Native American attire. His wealth of knowledge and expansive experiences out in the world as well as his cultural background is an absolute asset to VCI. Ryan’s passion is theater, taxidermy as well a strong commitment to the Native American community. We are so glad Ryan is a part of the VCI team. EMAIL RYAN
