What Makes It Happy?
Have you ever considered a Happy Meal? What makes that meal “happy”? Is it the quality of the hamburger patty? The freshness of the bun? The temperature of the fries? The coolness of the drink? How about the box that it comes in? Are you shaking your head No? Well of course you are because there is nothing happy about a burger, fries, drink and a cardboard box. What IS happy, however, is the PRIZE inside. The prize inside can make or break a kids’ experience at the golden arches. Is the prize a duplicate? Is the prize not the one advertised because the restaurant ran out? Or is the prize exactly the one wanted? dreamed about? desired? hoped for?
When VCI interpreters arrive on site, our goal is to see the face of the deaf client shine bright like the face of a child that has just discovered the perfect prize inside the Happy Meal. Why? Because the interpreter that was assigned to their appointment/meeting/event was a perfect match, the communication was effective, and everyone walked away with their expectations exceeded.
Did you know that VCI tells our deaf consumers which interpreter they will have before they ever arrive to their appointment or event (provided we have their contact information)? This allows the deaf consumer to express a desire to have a different interpreter for whatever reason they may have. Did you know that a deaf consumer can communicate feedback to VCI regarding their experience with an interpreter and that feedback is handled like a fine piece of China…with much care and attention. Whether the feedback is positive or less than, we ensure that the feedback is received, as a gift. When someone is comfortable expressing feedback about a situation, they trust you. We treasure that trust between VCI and our deaf consumers we work with.
VCI takes great care to ensure the best possible interpreter to deaf consumer match. In fact, VCI interpreters have been known to rework their schedule to accommodate a request of a sensitive nature just to satisfy the client.
This is called serving, and we are passionate about Serving our Customers.
It is a great honor to do what we do every day here in Knoxville and the surrounding counties. We thank you for letting us do the thing in our life that we are passionate about….interpreting for the deaf. May each experience you have working with a VCI interpreter produce that extra special smile on your face. If you are “Happy” then we are pleased.
