ASL Radio? Who Would Have Ever Imagined

Surely he must be joking right?

Radio? for deaf people?

Radio.  That amazing picture-free box of sound that began with a Victrola and is now available to carry around in the palm of your hand that plays music from the Stones to the Beatles to Bieber to Gaga and talk radio from the likes of Limbaugh to Stern and Bortz to Beck.

Radio.

ASL Radio?

Yes.  Only this is an amazing “sound-free” box of pictures that began with Keith Wann – CODA – Super Interpreter – Owner of  CALLVRS – and ASL comedian.

The Keith Wann Radio Show debuted in August 2010 and is unlike anything you have EVER seen in your life.

The description of the the Keith Wann Show:

This show is about building cultural bridges that enhance understanding and establish trust between communities. Every week Keith Wann will have guests share their experiences, expertise, opinions, and personal lives with us, to hopefully help us better understand others. The topics and guests will come from the American Sign Language (ASL) Community, or outside guests who can share information that may help us by bringing more awareness that can benefit us. Guests will include ASL performing artists, Interpreters, Teachers, and other ASL community members. Listen with an open mind and willingness to learn and help us with our cultural bridge!

Having been in the deaf community for over ten years I just jump with delight and excitement at the ideas and inventions that have come from an amazing group of people.  The deaf community does not include just deaf people but also people who are advocates of deaf culture, families with deaf members, people with deaf friends, as well as organizations that are deemed “deaf friendly”.

Talk Radio in ASL.

Building cultural bridges – sturdy structures that link two groups of people together and allow them to access and experience each other’s unique ways.  I simply cannot wait to share this with my deaf friends, clients, and the community as a whole.  Wouldn’t it be grand if Knoxville, Tennessee was able to put ourselves on the Keith Wann Radio Show map!  Who might be the first “celebrity” to star on the radio show?

Watch every Wednesday night from 8:00p – 9:00p EST

Thank you so much for bringing attention to Keith’s ASL radio show! It is wonderful to see the support in his community as well as the hearing community. Keith’s organization coda365.org is wonderful, and focuses on similar qualities of CODA but with a Keith Wann twist. His ownership of callVRS.com is a great playing force in the industry and only adds to his serious role in ASL society. I hope that there will be continued support for his endeavors.

Thank you again for posting information-I hope others share it! Let’s get him on Leno to perform and talk about his advocacy work!

Got something to say?
